Richards' Step in right direction

Claire Richards says she has ditched the diets for good
Claire Richards says she has ditched the diets for good

Claire Richards thinks her Steps reunion would be a no go if she hadn't come to terms with her body issues.

The singer, whose weight has fluctuated in recent years, says she is now in a "much better place" about her image.

"I don't think I would've done [the reunion], I really don't. I think that would've stopped me, so I'm glad that I'm not in that position now, because it would just have made it worse," she admitted.

"To have that pressure it would've either never happened or I'd be tearing my hair out by now."

The mum-of-two, 34, added: "It's something that I have had to come to terms with myself really, and not worry about being on a diet all the time. I'm in a much better place with it.

"I don't think it will ever not be a worry for me, and it's something I always have to keep on top of, but gone are the diets and if I ever want to lose weight I will just adjust my exercise and portion sizes to fit with it rather than go on a diet and starve myself like I have in the past.

"It's time to put that to rest and just get on with life, and if I'm a size 14, I'm a size 14, that's the way it's going to be from now on."

:: Steps Ultimate Collection is available on CD and CD/DVD on October 10.
