Brian Kennedy - A Love Letter To Joni (Beaumex)
With the peerless Joni Mitchell turning 70 a month ago, there has been no shortage of musicians queuing up to 'play' tribute to her.
Brian Kennedy has opted for an entire album of Joni covers.
It's a brave decision, but one that sounds utterly sincere.
It's clear that the man from Belfast adores her songs and his renditions of River and A Strange Boy are reverential.
Yet, he doesn't do enough with this rich material to make anyone other than the Brian Kennedy aficionado feel they should have this collection in their lives.
Why listen to his faithful versions when Mitchell's originals are so much more vital?
The lack of spark in the arrangements fails to help his cause and his somewhat one-note delivery does him few favours.
However, it's likely that even the veteran Canadian herself would approve of his sweet take on Amelia.
Key Track: Amelia
