Probation for drink-drive singer

Randy Travis has pleaded guilty to drink-driving

Country music star Randy Travis has pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in a case that began last summer when the naked singer crashed his Pontiac Trans Am.

Travis, 53, received two years of probation, was fined 2,000 dollars and must spend at least 30 days at an alcohol treatment centre.

He entered the plea in a North Texas court. The misdemeanour offence was punishable by up to a year in jail and a 4,000-dollar fine.

Authorities say a Trans Am registered to Travis veered off a road near Tioga, a town about 60 miles north of Dallas, in August, where the 53-year-old singer lives. The car struck several construction-zone barricades.

Investigators say Travis was naked and belligerent and had a blood alcohol level of 0.21. The legal limit for driving is 0.08.
