Paolo Nutini will headline next summer's RockNess festival.

The multimillion-selling artist and his band will bring the Highlands music festival to a close when he takes to the main stage on the Sunday night.

The Brit Award nominee, who hails from Paisley, said he was "buzzing" at the prospect of the gig.

He said: "I don't know what to expect but everyone I know has come back with loads of stories to tell. I hope I will be the same."

The three-day festival will take place on the banks of Loch Ness in the village of Dores, near Inverness, from June 10-12.

The announcement follows news that Kasabian and the Chemical Brothers have been confirmed as headline acts for the 2011 festival on the first and second nights.

Festival director Jim King said Nutini's performance looks set to be his biggest ever gig.

He said: "We have always said that RockNess is about delivering the best performers. Paolo has proven across his two albums that he is the best act of his generation to come out of Scotland and he is already on his way to becoming one of the very best acts in the world.

"Everything about him breathes quality and it's a great honour for us that he's chosen RockNess to headline next summer."

RockNess won Line up of the year 2010 at last week's UK Festival Awards for appearances including the Strokes, Leftfield and Fatboy Slim.
