Goodbye to my friend John Duffy

The busker that played the guitar

A very kind and decent soul

Who was known near and far

You would hear him sing in O'Connell Street

Or play in Wine Street Carpark

Now Sligo is a much sadder place

When John Duffy did depart

When you would be down the town

You would hear his singing voice

People gave him money passing by

For this was their own choice

John, he wouldn't hurt a fly

Everyone was sorry when he died

A decent honest Leitrim man

In him there was not any pride

They took him back to Drumshanbo

And then laid him in peaceful rest

So goodbye old friend 'till we meet again

Those who knew you were greatly blessed

No more will we hear you singing

In town with your guitar

Even though you never made a record

To us, John Duffy was our star
