Nigella Lawson's announcement of the British votes had been highly anticipated, with people taking to social media to express their excitement.

The TV cook - known for her sultry voice - announced on Twitter that she would be reading out the results, but throughout the contest had to remind fans that she was not judging it.

"I'm not on the judging panel: I'm just announcing the UK's votes," she said in reply to MillinersTale, who was under the impression that she was chairing the panel.

Others were simply excited to see Nigella on screen, as she announced the points tally in French and English.

Along with a kissing emoji, iScrew posted: "I'm only gonna watch Eurovision results for Nigella Lawson.

RobertJDoyle tweeted: "Nigella Lawson will make this points announcement very sexual knowing her."

As she appeared on screen in blue with a large jewelled brooch, t he BBC Eurovision account said: " Nigella! That's a smashing brooch."

BBC Radio 2 DJ Sara Cox added: "Woah Nigella looks like a really hot Queen or head of state."

Fellow radio DJ Scott Mills simply said: " Nigella was AMAZING."

Some commentators even credited the star with helping Sweden leapfrog early leaders Russia, after the UK awarded the Scandinavians the maximum 12 points.

Actress Samantha Bond said: " You looked fab! And changed the course of history!"

BBC political editor Nick Robinson added: " Was it Nigella wot won it ?! (Before Russians took out the Georgian jury?)

But not all viewers were so complimentary.

Sun columnist Katie Hopkins tweeted: " Nigella tits look wonky. Off message. But noticeable all the same."

Nigella herself simply tweeted the words "proud moment" alongside a picture of her holding the cue card carrying the UK's top three.
