The former Westlife star will perform his song 'Sunlight' in the second semi final next Thursday in Stockholm.

However the father-of-three has faced negative criticisms on social media, questioning his vocal abilities ahead of the show.

But at an event in the Irish Embassy in Stockholm yesterday evening the Dubliner put any doubts to rest after he delivered a stripped back acoustic performance of the song.

More experienced performers tend to use their initial rehearsals to get the feel of the stage and arena, and hold back for the jury and televote performances.

However bookies expect Ireland will struggle to make it out of the semi final - meaning it could all come down to Nicky's live performance grabbing attention on the night.

Nicky Byrne will represent Ireland in second semi final of the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest next Thursday at 8pm on RTE Two.
