Spotify has released its list of the top 25 most influential music artists under the age of 25 and a British artist is number one.

Given the scale of his success this year it's hardly surprising that Ed Sheeran topped the list of the top 25 most influential artists under the age of 25.

Sheeran (24) was Spotify's most streamed artist of 2014 and his hit Thinking Out Loud is the most streamed song ever with 450m streams.

He beat off stiff competition from Ariana Grande (averaging 3m streams a day), who came second, followed by Sam Smith, Miley Cyrus and One Direction.

The list takes into account total streams but also number one hits, volume and growth of streams and Spotify's viral chart.

Electronic act Disclosure came in sixth.
