Four years after Westlife's split, Mark Feehily has announced a one-off concert in London next year.

His bandmates Kian Egan, Nicky Byrne and Shane Filan have all moved on to other projects, but the Sligo native took time off following the split.

Former manager Louis Walsh thinks his going solo is a great idea.

"It's about time - he's a great singer. He left it long enough but I think he wanted a break. I'm sure he'll do well," Louis told the Herald.

Mark is working on a new solo album and is said to be exploring a "darker, more soulful" electronic sound that he will showcase at a one-off gig at the Scala venue in London in March.

He also said he's working on collaborations with big names in the music industry.

"There's a lot to be said for working with some of the most successful producers in the business," he said.

"But at the same time there's a real excitement that comes from working with some of the hottest up-and-coming talents."

His upcoming album, to be released next year, features a soulful sound and will be highly autobiographical.

"It's more daunting to write and perform songs that are autobiographical," he said. "I tend to write more when I'm feeling down or when something bad happens as it can be the only way to express myself.

"I'm really looking forward to sharing the new songs with the fans."

While Mark (34) waited until starting work on his own music, the other Westlife stars quickly moved on after the split.

Shane (35) also went solo, had a successful tour of Asia and released an autobiography.

"Next year is going to be busy, I have a new record deal for Shane," said Louis.

Nicky Byrne (36) has landed a new gameshow on RTE called The Million Euro Challenge and hosts his weekday 2fm morning radio show with Jenny Greene, which has done particularly well in the ratings.

"I'm really excited about the show airing in the New Year," said Nicky. "I've been working with The Million Euro Challenge team learning all about the new games and I think the format of the show is brilliant."

Kian Egan (34) will return to TV in the new year for his fifth stint as a coach on The Voice of Ireland talent show.

He recently went to Australia to hand over his crown as after winning I'm A Celebrity . . . Get Me Out of Here last year. He and wife Jodie Albert are expecting their second child.
