Iggy Azalea has shot back at reports suggesting she had engaged in a war of words with Britney Spears over promotion of their 'Pretty Girls' single.

On Sunday Iggy posted a tweet which was interpreted as taking a pop at Britney for apparently not promoting Pretty Girls enough to make it a success.

She wrote, "its difficult to send a song up the charts without additional promo and tv performances etc. unfortunately im just featured...".

She added, "i would have enjoyed performing it alot, i think it got off to a powerful start. but you need content to compete in 2015".

Following some backlash from Britney fans, Iggy responded on Monday by saying, "Genuine friends have genuine opinions.  It's possible & healthy to have a differing thought without it being bitchy or shade".

She added, "i really love the song, and actually never said anything negative, only that i think there was room to do more with it" and, later, "Does wishing we had promoted a single more make me the bad guy?"

When Britney, on Tuesday, tweeted, "Can’t wait to get back to Vegas. So thankful I have shows for the rest of the year to look forward to... #YouWantAPieceOfMe" some saw it as a dig at Iggy whose Great Escape tour was cancelled.

However, Britney has since pinned a tweet promoting the video for Pretty Girls to the top of her Twitter feed.
