WATCH: Celine Dion pays heartbreaking tribute to cancer-stricken husband at Las Vegas show
Singer Celine Dion has paid an emotional tribute to René Angélil, her husband of 20 years, on stage in Las Vegas.
Dion (47) sang 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face as a montage of grainy family home videos played on the big screen featuring Rene and their three sons René-Charles (14) and four-year-old twins Eddy and Nelson.
Audience members can be heard clapping every time Rene senior appeared on screen.
Rene (72) is battling throat cancer for the third time and, according to the National Enquirer, Celine had hoped he could sit front row for her performance but was not well enough and watched it via video link from their home instead.
Before she sang, Celine said, "I hope that by now you have got the message that tonight’s show is very, very personal to me."
Last August Celine cancelled her Vegas residency in order to care for Rene and their children, but he encouraged her to return to the spotlight at her residency at Caesars Palace.
Speaking to USA Today, she said, "I didn't want to be here at first, I don't need it,' Celine explained. 'Don't get me wrong, I love singing for people, but I have priorities. But Rene really gave me a gift."
She also revealed that Rene said his last wish was to die in her arms.
"René says to me, 'I want to die in your arms.' OK, fine, I'll be there, you'll die in my arms," she said.
