Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran lead MTV VMA nominations as Hozier gets nod for Best Rock Video

Taylor Swift leads the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards with nine nominations.

The 25-year-old singer is the top nominee at this year's event, with her star-studded Bad Blood receiving nods in seven categories including best collaboration, best cinematography and video of the year.

The video, which features her celebrity friends such as Kendrick Lamar, Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham, Cara Delevingne and Hailee Steinfeld, is also up for best art direction, best direction, best editing and best visual effects. Her other two nominations are for her other hit Blank Space.

Swift reacted to her nominations by asking for her fans' votes, tweeting: "GUYS!! You got Bad Blood nominated for Video of the Year at the VMA's!! Vote here pleeeeease?"

Bray singer/songwriter Hozier has bagged a nomination for Best Rock Video for Take Me To Church which was directed by Brendan Canty and Conal Thomson from Feel Good Lost, a Cork-based, visual arts production house.

Canty and Thomson are also nominated for Best Direction.

Brendan Canty told Today FM, "It's mad, it's taken me completely by surprise.  I got an email from an Irish magazine asking 'Can we interview you about your two VMA nominations?' and I was like, 'What are you talking about?'"

Ed Sheeran follows Swift with six nominations including video of the year for his chart-topping hit Thinking Out Loud, while Beyonce, Lamar and Mark Ronson have five each.

Other stars vying for video of the year are Lamar's Alright, Beyonce's 7/11, and Uptown Funk by Ronson featuring Bruno Mars.

Ronson wrote: "Holy f!$k. 3 VMA noms. Thanks to my brother @BrunoMars for such a great video/performance/choreography & cameronduddy 4 co directing. Plus my brothers 4 @philsmeeze @JeffBhasker for the song, the damn song. @jamareoartis on bass & the big dog Brandon Creed 4 everything else."

Beyonce, Sia, Nicki Minaj and Ellie Goulding will battle Taylor for best female video, while Sheeran, Lamar, Ronson, the Weeknd and Nick Jonas will compete for best male video.

"This is incredible! Thank you so much! This is so awesome! Thanks mtv," Jonas posted.

Diplo, FKA twigs, Skrillex and Minaj earned three nominations each, while the Weeknd, Ariana Grande and Fetty Wap are double nominees.

Miley Cyrus, who won 2014′s video of the year for Wrecking Ball, will host the 2015 VMAs, which will air live on August 30 from the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.
