Robbie Williams has announced he will play Ireland next summer.

The former Take That star will take to the stage at the Aviva Stadium on June 17th.

He made the announcement at the Intercontinental Hotel in Dublin after sending the rumour mill into overdrive on Friday morning by announcing a press conference.

"I don't know why the Irish love me," said the Angels hitmaker during the conference, hosted by Ian Dempsey.

"Maybe it's because I'm f*cking great," he laughed.

"I've sort of been on tour since 2009 really. I haven't stopped. The kids and Ayda have always come with me and they will be coming to Ireland.

"I'd like to do more dates in Ireland, we'll see how it goes.

"The audience does 80% of the work for me, especially here."

Williams is set to release his eleventh studio album, The Heavy Entertainment Show, on November 4.

He will tour Europe as part of the album's release.

The father of two confirmed that he and his wife are trying for a third child.

In 2006 Williams famously promised Irish fans that he would return to play a "free gig" after he played a below-par performance in Croke Park.

"I don't feel I've done the best I can tonight. I haven't been very good," he told the 78,000-strong audience.

"So I'm going to come back and do it again... for free."

He returned in 2012  to play a charity gig at Dublin's 3Arena, whereby tickets were distributed on a random selection basis.

The tickets weren't free, however, instead retailing at the cheaper than normal price of €35 and €45. All proceeds from ticket sales went to UNICEF and Childline.

Tickets for the The Heavy Entertainment Show will go on sale on Friday 11 November at 10am on robbiewilliams.com.

Prices start at €69.50 including booking fee.
