One Direction are set to break up in March, according to a report in The Sun.
The boy band and teen idol sensations - featuring Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Mullingar man Niall Horan - are set to part company for a year because they want to focus on solo projects.
A 1D source told The Sun: "The guys have been together for five years, which is an incredible run for any boyband.
"They fully deserve to have at least a year to work on their own projects. There is absolutely no bad blood between them and they are all 100 per cent behind the decision.
"It is definitely not a split and they fully intend to get back together at some time in the future," the source added.
Speculation around the band's future reached fever pitch when Zayn Malik quit in March.
Four weeks ago, he announced he had signed a solo deal.
And rumours mounted again when it was announced Louis Tomlinson was about to become a father.
The boys have stayed tight-lipped regarding their future - but did assure fans after Malik's departure that they intended carrying on as a four-piece.
One Direction are currently performing shows worldwide as part of their On the Road Again Tour and they are also working on their fifth studio album. However if disbanding rumours are true, they will not be putting on a concert tour in connection with their fifth LP, which means their final show for the foreseeable future would take place on October 31 at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield.
They released the video for Drag Me Down, which was shot at the NASA Space Centre in Houston, Texas, last week and will likely release their new single at Christmas.
The individual band members' accounts have remained silent on the matter but the official One Direction account tweeted a line from their 2014 song, No Control, which says, "The pedal's down, my eyes are closed..."
Directioners are not impressed by the reports, as they can’t bear to see their favourite singers part.
“Nope nope nope nope nope nope nope if one direction split up I'll never be happy again (sic),” @_mirrinn wrote on Twitter, with user @EmmaEllis_ sharing similar sentiments with her tweet which read: “Not to be overdramatic but one direction is over and so is my whole life”.
