Marina and the Diamonds announce Academy Dublin show
Marina and the Diamonds will play a headline show at The Academy Dublin on December 2.
The show comes on the back of FROOT, the first since alter ego Electra Heart departed in 2013, and it marks a return to basics for a new chapter in Marina Diamandis' career and life.
“You've got to have a start and an end to a story,” she says, hushed as if revealing a MI5-level secret. “You have to do it publicly. Could you imagine if I'd just let her fade away?”
She adds, “I can't imagine in a million years putting that wig again... it was a one-time thing. I do miss it sometimes; it was such fun...but you know what? I don't think I could ever do it again.”
FROOT landed on her 29th birthday (October 10, 2014) and is the result of a more contented state of existence.
“It was almost like I had been burdened by something my whole life and then suddenly that went away...” she says. “I can't even describe how amazing it is... you suddenly realise why people are happy and why people enjoy things.
"I think I used to believe that being depressed was part of my personality or that I was born like that, but it's quite shocking to realise that perhaps that isn't the case...
“Maybe I was ready to change. Maybe I was ready to leave a lot of things I'd held onto in the past behind. I don't know if that happens to other people when they hit a certain age or maybe some people don't even have those issues to begin with. Perhaps it's not very common, but I know that it was important for my future.”
Tickets for The Academy show go on sale this Friday at 9am via Ticketmaster outlets & online at Ticketmaster.ie, €27.90 inclusive of booking fee charges. The show is over 18’s, I.D will be required
