Anyone who didn't mute the ad breaks during X Factor on Sunday night was in for a treat.

A 30 second teaser of material from Adele's new album was broadcast, sending fans into meltdown on Twitter.

The clip simply displayed lyrics on a black screen as Adele sang.

The lyrics said: "Hello/It's me/I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet"

"To go over everything/they say that time's supposed to heal you/But I ain't done much healing."

It has been four years since Adele released her last album, 21, in January 2011.  It sold a whopping 30 million copies worldwide.

Her upcoming album, expected to be called 25, will release in November.  Several other top artists have reportedly delayed their album releases to avoid going up against Adele.
