Lewis Hamilton wants to kick his music career up a gear and Jay Z is reportedly thinking of helping out, according to reports.

The British Formula One driver, who until recently dated singer Nicole Scherzinger, has a home studio where he dabbles in music, but the racing star has yet to release any material.

And now the 30-year-old is in talks to sign to Jay Z's Roc Nation label, according to The Sun.

Earlier this week, Lewis gave fans an insight into his passion for music when he posted a photo of himself in studio to Instagram.

"Other than being in a car, or anything with an engine, this is my favourite place to be," he wrote. "My fortress of solitude. It allows me to get away from it all, and let everything out creatively.

"I love music, and I love the process of making music. Maybe one day soon I'll let you hear something. #TeamLHMusic #Cooking."

Given the racing driver recently split from Scherzinger, who he had dated on and off for seven years, he may need that studio more than ever.

He was also spotted on the red carpet at the BRITs last week.
