Leo Brennan, father of Enya and Clannad, has passed away at 90
Enya's father Leo Brennan has passed away.
The popular musician, entertainer passed away at his home in Gweedore, Donegal.
He was surrounded by family during his final days.
Leo is the father of a family of entertainers that include Clannad and Enya.
A credible musician in his own right, Leo Brennan was famous throughout his county of Donegal.
He was born into a showband family and spent much of his life on the road with the Slieve Foy Dance Band playing accordion, saxophone and worked as a singer.
When the showband era began fading in the late 1960s, he set up a restaurant and pub, Leo's Tavern, in Meenaleck, Donegal in 1968.
The venue became famous for its nightly entertainment and the Brennan children performed there regularly, with covers of contemporary and traditional songs.
He played a major role in the success of daughters Enya and Maire and of Clannad, whose fame has brought world attention to Donegal and to the pub, which attracts thousands of visitors from around the world every year.
In 2001, he received a Hall of Fame award at a function hosted annually to recognise the contribution of Donegal people to the county down the years.
Leo Brennan is survived by his wife Máire 'Baba' Brennan and their children Moya, Ciarán, Pól, Deirdre, Leon, Enya, Olive, Bartley and Brídín.
His funeral will take place in Derrybeg, Co Donegal on Friday.
