The American rock band worked with just one producer on their latest album.

Mechanical Bull is their sixth record and while other groups like to branch out when they've been going for so long, Kings of Leon took the opposite route.

"People probably thought we were going to spread out and get a big name producer and try to push the envelope. We did the exact opposite and went even further in and only had Angelo Petraglia," Jared Followill told British newspaper The Daily Star.

“It’s the first time we’ve worked with just him alone, except for when we first started the band.

“We’re a small, family unit and would feel self-conscious working with anyone else. And they’d see how drunk we get in the studio."

Kings of Leon is comprised of Jared and his brothers Caleb and Nathan as well as their cousin Matthew. There are certain things the rockers can never imagine themselves doing, one of which is teaming up for a dance track. Jared could barely contain his amazement when told super-producer David Guetta harbours dreams of working together.

"How would that work? He’d produce a song for us?" he questioned. “We’ve never said yes to anybody before. We’re set in our ways.

“We’re very cohesive and never really branch out."

The band are well known for their raucous antics and for fighting each other, although they've mellowed over the years. Caleb, Nathan and Matthew all have children, meaning their experience of tour has altered dramatically since they first started playing shows.

"It’s funny as backstage now there’s crying and sh**ty nappies and crawling around," Jared laughed.
