In pictures: David Bowie's incredible 1987 Slane Castle performance
The influence of legendary musician and performer David Bowie has been felt with the news of his passing at age 69.
With a career spanning six decades, David Bowie was a performer like no other, continually evolving in both sound and style and leaving behind one of the greatest legacies in the entertainment industry.
In 1987 the grounds of Slane Castle were transformed into Planet Bowie; the iconic performer brought his Glass Spider Tour to Ireland for a highly anticipated headline show, which was also his debut concert in the country.
His trademark outré showmanship was accompanied by an elaborate ‘glass spider’ set from which he was lowered, midair, to the stage as he sang.
The Independent Archives’ collection of images from this unforgettable show conveys the energy and vivacity of this inimitable performer.
He is pictured cavorting skilfully with his back up dancers whilst belting tracks out with gusto in front of an adoring crowd, who are also captured on film.
