Taylor Swift has revealed she may take time off following the end of her 1989 tour in December and has hinted it may be because she is overexposed.

In an interview with NME conducted on the day before she was joined on stage by Beck and St Vincent, Swift said that 'people might need a break' from her.

Asked about her plans post-tour, the 25-year-old Shake it Off star said, "I think I should take some time off.  I think people might need a break from me.

"I'm going to... I don't know.  Hang out with my friends. Write new music.  Maybe not write new music.  I don't know."

She also hinted that she may forge ahead in a different direction with her next album.

"Maybe the next album will be a bridge to somewhere else. Or maybe I’ll just go ahead and change everything," she said.

Taylor also relayed a story about Kanye West, who she she dinner with a week after the Grammys.

Kanye had famously stormed the stage at the 2009 VMAs as Swift collected her Best Female Video award and ranted that it should have been given to Beyonce.

These days they are "on such good terms" although it "took a while".

She said, "I was at dinner with Kanye a week after the Grammys, he stops what he’s saying and he goes, ‘What is this song? I need to listen to this every day.’ I say, ‘It’s Beck, it’s on an album called ‘Morning Phase’, I think you’ve heard of it…’ We just burst out laughing. And he says, ‘Hey, sometimes I’m wrong.’”

Ahead of this year's VMAs, when the interview took place, Taylor had had a minor Twitter spat with Nicki Minaj when she thought a tweet was directed at her, but said she didn't want to talk about it.

“I don’t want to talk about it,” she said. “But I send text messages now. If there seems to be some kind of misunderstanding, I go to someone’s management, I get their number and I text them. It’s an important lesson for anyone to learn in 2015.”

They two artists performed together at the VMAs.
