HamsandwicH just released 'Stories from the Surface' last week (April 17) and it has already soared to the top of the Irish album chart.

Their highly-anticipated third album, which features singles Apollo and Illuminate, releases five years after the hugely successful White Fox, and eight after their debut, Carry the Meek.

Speaking to Independent.ie prior to the album's releases, Podge McNamee said, "This album is a lot more experimental".

He added, "It’s a risk in a way but it could be a case of dumping your previous girlfriend for someone else!  We’d get bored if we wrote something similar to before.”

Clearly the risk has paid off since the album, which was produced and directed by Karl Odlum, has shot to number one in Ireland, knocking Hozier into second position with his self-titled debut and Ed Sheeran into third with X.

The band will feature in this week's Windmill Lane Sessions on Independent.ie and are currently in the middle of their 'Stories from the Surface' tour which finishes ùp at The Olympia Theatre on May 29.

Tickets priced from €20 (standing) / Circle (Seated) €22.50 on sale now from Ticketmaster outlets nationwide and ticketmaster.ie
