Former One Direction star Zayn Malik has signed a new solo deal.
Revealing the news on his Twitter account tonight, the 22-year-old said: "I guess I never explained why I left, it was for this moment to be given the opportunity to show you who I really am. #realmusic #RCA"
The singer has signed a deal with RCA and posted an image of himself signing the deal.
When Zayn left the world's biggest selling boyband earlier this year, it was thought he had quit as he was stuggling to cope with the pressures of his global fame. At the time, he said he quit the band as he wanted to be a "normal 22-year-old".
His former bandmates Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Mullingar man Niall Horan have continued as a four piece but speculation continues to mount about the future of the band.
There was some speculation that Zayn had recorded some solo material prior to his departure, which was never confirmed nor denied by Zayn.
However, tonight's news puts nobody in any doubt why Zayn really left - to pursue his own career ambitions.
The label has some of the world's biggest stars in its stable including Britney Spears, Alicia Keys, Chris Brown, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Mark Ronson, Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus, Pitbull, Shakira, Usher and Van Morrison.
It is not clear when we can expect to hear some of Zayn's solo material.
Simon Cowell, who was One Direction's mentor on X Factor before signing them to his label Syco, congratulated Malik on his new deal.
The music mogul tweeted: " We have been working on this for a while and I am pleased to say congratulations to @zaynmalik on signing with @RCARecords.
"I believe they are the perfect label for @zaynmalik's solo career and I am sure whatever they release together will be special."
The 22-year-old singer left his boy band One Direction in March to pursue a solo career.
Since then he was engaged in a public feud with beatmaker Naughty Boy, but it’s claimed the fall out actually helped Zayn professionally, as the star is said to have linked up with one of the best music makers in entertainment as a result.
“Malay is a hugely successful producer and is well respected within the industry too,” a source told British newspaper The Sun of Zayn’s new collaborator.
“After the way his relationship with Naughty Boy ended, Zayn could not be in better hands.”
Malay has produced songs for John Legend and Alicia in the past. He is also the main creative engineer behind Frank Ocean’s critically acclaimed LP Channel Orange, which won a Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album.
