In his latest bid to turn the world vegan, Morrissey has teamed up with PETA to create a cartoon video which emotively campaigns against the consumption of animal products.
It coincides with Morrissey’s 55th birthday on 22 May. In case you were thinking of marking the occasion, PETA’s Lisa Lange has some advice:
“The best way for anyone to celebrate Morrissey's birthday is to go vegan - not 'someday,' but today,” she said in a press release.
The video tells the sad story of Nugget, an adorable-looking chick who is born and dies in a factory farm. He dreams of a day when he will be freed to roam the countryside, and where he can be reunited with his mother, who he was separated from by the cruel farmers.
At one point, the blood of his chicken friends dramatically sprays the screen in the manner of a manga film. Nugget looks tearfully on. He wanders through a dark forest before stumbling across a PETA building – but it is all just a dream and the chick dies in the factory farm.
Morrissey has provided the soundtrack with his cheerful 1992 song, I Know It’s Gonna Happen Someday. The clip will be presented on his tour in support of his forthcoming album, World Peace is None of Your Business.
