Morrison: I want duet with Levine

Matthew Morrison worked with Smokey Robinson on his new record

Matthew Morrison has revealed that he wanted to get Adam Levine singing on his album.

The Glee actor has released his second record Where It All Began, which features a collaboration with Smokey Robinson, but he also really wanted to duet with the Maroon 5 frontman, whose label it was made on.

"I tried to get Adam but the scheduling didn't work out. Maybe on the next one," he said.

Matthew - who played London's Bush Hall on June 20 - would also like to get some girl power on his next album.

"I've really hit the great older generation of singer-songwriters so I would like to duet with somebody a little more current such as Adele and Beyonce," he added.

"For my last album, I did duets with Elton John and Sting and I was looking for someone of that ilk to come and sing with me. When Smokey Robinson says he wants to sing on your album, it's a surreal moment and I absolutely loved it. There are a lot of amazing vocalists I'd like to run my voice with."

The album features classic Broadway standards such as Singin' In The Rain, The Lady Is A Tramp and a West Side Story medley.

"A lot of people know me from Glee, but my career started from the Broadway stage, and I wanted to pick some of my favourite Broadway tunes. These classic standards are much loved and have been sung by others, and I just put my own spin on them," he explained.

The 34-year-old, best known for playing choir master Will Schuester in Glee, admitted Adam gave him total creative freedom on the record. "He's the best boss you could ever have. He just handed me the keys to the studio and said, 'Have fun'," he recalled.
