Morricone wows 12,000 fans with movie classics

LEGENDARY Italian composer Ennio Morricone (84) wowed 12,000 fans at the weekend in his first ever Irish performances.

The most prolific composer in the history of film music conducted his 97-piece Italian orchestra, the Roma Sinfonietta, together with a 100-strong choir in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham on Saturday night and last night.

The five-time Academy Award nominee received an honorary Oscar in 2007 for his "magnificent and multi-faceted contributions to the art of film music".
