Mayer performs free show for fans
John Mayer performed a surprise free show in the US to thank fans who have been camping outside his rehearsals.
The US star is in South Carolina getting ready for his upcoming tour and eager fans have been waiting outside the venue hoping to spot him.
So this week Mayer posted a message on Twitter inviting students from the University of South Carolina to come and watch him perform, saying: "USC students: Come watch us run the show tonight - free."
The tweet invited students to pick up their free tickets from the student union and show up for a concert two hours later.
Organisers originally said only 200 tickets would be issued, but about 500 were gathered for the two-hour performance.
During the show Mayer told the crowd he planned to run through the touring concert playlist and make tweaks as necessary, even asking the audience for advice on some show elements.
"Thank you for helping us out," he said. "This is the way you should rehearse a show."
Mayer is rehearsing for his two-year worldwide tour, which kicks off later this week.
