The Maroon 5 singer and star of The Voice was the guest host on the US comedy sketch show at the weekend, and sent himself up in a sketch where he auditioned for the singing talent show, with fellow guest stars Cameron Diaz, Jerry Seinfeld and Andy Samberg competing to be his coach.

Adam opened the show saying: "Like all successful singers, I knew I would try to overreach and try acting. I've been a coach on The Voice for the last two years, so, tonight, I hope you don't judge me too harshly."

Andy, who popped up with Cameron and Seinfeld on Voice-style swivel chairs retorted: "Fat chance Levine. You need my wisdom. I was in over 100 digital shorts as well as three live sketches, and I've dealt with my fair share of singers-turned-actors. Timberlake."

Cameron told him: "If you want to succeed in comedy, you have to check your pride at the door. You have to be able to take a handful of Ben Stiller's splooge and stick it right in you're hair and spike it up like a Mohawk."

But Adam's performance of YOLO, a send up of popular catchphrase You Only Live Once, proved to be the biggest hit of the show.

The song, which is already on sale on iTunes, is a "cautionary tale" about being extra careful as you live your life, encouraging people to do "safe" things like isolate themselves, pull out their teeth so they can't bite their tongues and build bunkers with titanium walls to protect themselves.
