Le Bon gives Matt the thumbs up
Simon Le Bon has said he prefers Matt Cardle to previous X Factor winners.
The Duran Duran singer revealed he is not in favour of music talent shows that thrust aspiring singers into the spotlight, only for them to quickly disappear from the charts. But he said Matt, who has spent years gigging in pubs with his band, was different.
"You've always had two parallel ways of doing things. You have Top Of The Pops or The Old Grey Whistle Test on one hand, and New Faces or Opportunity Knocks on the other," Simon, 52, explained.
"And now you've got Later... With Jools Holland where you get real bands who've grown up and written their music. Then you've got The X Factor who are the ones who've been schooled and formed, and there's an awful big difference between those two.
"I have to say, I think that the guy who won this year, he's more one of our kind of artist. And you always hold out hope that these people are going to make it because it's terribly sad when you look at them and the most important part of their career is the first three months. Tough to get over that."
:: Duran Duran's new single All You Need Is Now is out now, and their latest album, of the same name, is released on December 21.
