The singer, picked as part of Time magazine's annual 100 list of the most influential people in the world, said during a video interview: "I don't care about having a legacy, I don't care about being remembered.

"The most important thing to me is while I'm here, while I'm having fun, and breathing oxygen and living life, falling in love, and having pain and having joy, it's like what can I do with my voice, what can we do for each other to make life easier for each other, to make life doper for our kids, you know as they grow up.

"We were born into a broken world and we're like the clean up crew."

This year's list features the likes of West, Kim Kardashian and actor Bradley Cooper.

It also features guest contributors writing about various names on the list.

Entrepreneur and engineer Elon Musk wrote about West: "He's not afraid of being judged or ridiculed in the process.

"Kanye's been playing the long game all along, and we're only just beginning to see why."

Other notable names on the list include the Barefoot Contessa, real name Ina Garten , author Haruki Murakami, and associate justice of the US Supreme Court Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

The Time 100 issue goes on sale on Friday April 17.
