Jack's album is 'turning point'
Jack Johnson has said his new album marks another milestone in his life.
His fifth release, The Sea, was recorded after his 65-year-old father Jeff died of cancer last summer, followed by the birth of his daughter - his third child - a month later.
"I guess I'm at a turning point here - I'm having to find the father in myself now, and the album has a lot to do with that, trying to understand yourself, trying to lead your children to understand themselves," he said.
"At a time when I'm still learning the way of the world to try and be teaching that to the kids."
Jack said one of the songs, Turn Your Love, on the record, which is out now, puts his father's death in perspective.
"We're all part of him, and to explain that to the kids and to be able to show them, here's your new little sister and she's a part of grandpa as well, and to explain how life carries on through family, was a way that was a lot easier for me to understand it all, feel OK about it," revealed the 35-year-old.
He added: "We've accomplished a lot with music and the sharing of the music, so I think the inspiration from him [is] there's still a lot to be done as far as seeing the world - but from a different angle than this let's you do it."
