Irish premiere of Lorca tribute on gay theatre bill

THE International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival presents the Irish premiere of Lorca Is Dead from tomorrow to Saturday, May 14, at the Black Loft Theatre in Dublin.

This is the eighth annual international Dublin Gay Theatre Festival and it will host entertainments from the UK, Australia, the US, Canada and Venezuela among others at seven city-centre venues. For more information, go to www.gaytheatre.ie.

Haiti charity cycle

A HOST of business figures have raised €15,000 in a 225km charity cycle from Dublin to Galway in aid of the Soul of Haiti Foundation.

Among the 156 cyclists who set out in a bid to triple last year's fundraising goal were: Michael Dawson, CEO of the Gift Voucher Shop; Michael Cullen, chief executive Beacon Medical Group; and Padraig O Ceidigh, chairman of Aer Arann. The funds raised by Cycle4Haiti in 2010 helped to provide a new roof for an orphanage in Il-a-Vache.

Rural Link forum

Irish Rural Link's annual conference will take place on Thursday and Friday, May 12 and 13, in Castlepollard, Co Westmeath. The conference will be opened by Housing and Planning Minister Willie Penrose, and will also be addressed by John Perry, Minister of State for Small Business.

The conference will examine the role of community in partnership with rural business in combating unemployment and emigration.

New Celtic ferry

Celtic Link Ferries has acquired a new ferry, which will serve its Rosslare to Cherbourg route. The new ship will take over from the Norman Voyager in October and will have more bars, restaurants and play areas than ever before. See www.celticlinkferries.com.
