The pop star, who famously battled the disease herself, will be presented with an honorary Doctor of Health Science award from Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford, Essex, on Wednesday night.

The singer was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and underwent surgery and chemotherapy to beat the disease.

She was given the all-clear the following year.

More than 2,500 students from Anglia Ruskin will be joined by honoraries from the fields of music, sport, media, fashion, healthcare, education, literature, finance, law and viniculture as they celebrate their graduation.

The ceremonies, which will be held at the Riverside campus in Chelmsford today, tomorrow and Thursday, will see 12 honorary degrees presented.

Other recipients include novelist Jilly Cooper, swimmer Mark Foster and fashion designer and businesswoman Anya Hindmarch.
