Green Day's tears over musical
Green Day were moved to tears at the premiere of American Idiot on Broadway.
The US band got emotional as they watched the musical show, which features songs from their Grammy-winning album of the same name as well as hits from 21st Century Breakdown and some of their B-sides.
"All of us actually came to tears, because you don't get to see Green Day play live if you're actually in Green Day - but to see these voices and the way all the cast were singing, you just abandon hope of a tissue and let them stream," bassist Mike Dirnt told MTV.com.
Drummer Tre Cool added: "Yeah, the first night I wasn't prepared. The second night, I brought tissues and I drank two glasses of wine."
Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong admitted the show struck a chord with them.
"It's your wildest dream, but you never actually thought it would happen. And so, when you start to hear the music in that way... you reminisce about why you wrote the song to begin with. To see that start to come to life is kind of gripping," he said.
