The US rocker's Grammy-winning album has been adapted for the stage into a tale of disaffected suburban youth.

Producers have announced that the production is now moving to New York following a sell-out run last autumn at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre in California.

The musical features lyrics by Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and a book by Armstrong and Michael Mayer, who also directed the show.

Casting for the New York show, which opens at the St James Theatre in April, is yet to be announced.

Mayer, as well as producers Tom Hulce and Ira Pittelman were all involved in Broadway's last big rock musical, the Tony award winning Spring Awakening.
