George Michael is still in hospital after his car accident but is "making good progress".

The former Wham! singer fell out of a car while he was travelling on the M1 motorway, just outside of London, during rush hour last week.

His publicist has told Reuters: "I can confirm that George remains in hospital but purely as a standard precaution for observation because he suffered some bumps and cuts to his head.

"But he's making good progress, he's fine and he's really looking forward to getting home."

Katherine Fox was driving on the M1 when the Freedom singer fell out of the car in front of her. She skidded to a halt and used her car to shield him from other vehicles.

She told The Sun: "There was a nasty cut on his forehead and the back of his head. There was blood all down his face and on his teeth."

The accident was the latest in a string of health scares for the 49-year-old star.

In 2011 he spent a month in intensive care in Vienna with severe pneumonia and last year cancelled a tour of Australia due to "major anxiety" brought on by the illness.
