Robbie Williams says he and Gary Barlow are competing to get trim for the Take That tour

Robbie Williams has apparently revealed he and Gary Barlow are battling it out to lose the most weight before the Take That tour.

Robbie, 37, reportedly told The Sun, that when he heard Gary, 40, was dieting to get in shape for the band's Progress tour of Europe in May, he decided he didn't want his bandmate looking better than him on stage.

Robbie said: "Me and Gary vary in weight, we go up and down by the week.

"Gary and the boys were at my house in LA last week when Gary turns to me and says, 'I won't be needing these clothes soon, do you want them?' - 'cause he's going on a diet.

"That was the day I thought, 'Right, if you're eating a lettuce, I'm eating half a lettuce.'

"There is now a serious game on to see who can get the thinnest for the tour."

And Robbie is not one to do things by halves, joking he is taking his dieting to the extreme by modelling himself on Christian Bale's skeleton-like figure in The Machinist.

He said: "You know The Machinist with Christian Bale? I'm going for Christian Bale."
