Lady Gaga has claimed she is being guided by the ghost of the late fashion designer Alexander McQueen.

The singer is convinced the designer, who tragically took his own life in February 2010, a year before her hit Born This Way was released, helped her to write the song.

Lady Gaga told Harper's Bazaar magazine: "Right after he died, I wrote Born This Way.

"When I heard that, I knew: I didn't even write the f**king song! He did! I think he planned the whole thing. He's up in heaven with fashion strings in his hands, marionetting away."

The 25-year-old singer, known for her outrageous sense of style, also makes the bizarre claim that the flesh coloured bumps she has been seen sporting on her cheeks, forehead and shoulders are magical bony protrusions that "come out when I'm inspired".

She said: "First of all, they're not prosthetics. They're my bones... They've always been inside of me, but I have been waiting for the right time to reveal to the universe who I truly am.

"We all have these bones! They're the light from inside of us."

And despite her strange facial protrusions Gaga insists she would never encourage her fans to be anything but natural.

She said: "I have never had plastic surgery, and there are many pop singers who have.

"My fans know me. They would never hurt themselves. And if they have hurt themselves, they come to me and say, 'Gaga, I want to stop, and your music helps me want to stop. Your music makes me want to love myself.' I am in no way promoting sadomasochism or masochism."
