The Futureheads are among the bands selected by Channel 4 presenters for a series of free student gigs.

Nick Grimshaw, Alex Zane, Miquita Oliver, Rick Edwards and Matt Edmondson have all selected their pick of the best emerging talent to perform in May.

Matt has selected The Futureheads and We Have Band to play Newcastle's The Other Rooms on May 15 and said: "They're going to put on an amazing gig, and I hope they also put on an amazingly thick jumper... it's quite cold up there!"

Alex has chosen Archie Bronson Outfit and Everything Everything to play Leeds Brudenell Social Club on May 16 as part of the Topman CTRL Student Tour.

He said: "Leeds is my hometown and a wonderful city and it's playing host to two fantastic bands in the shape of Archie Bronson Outfit and Everything Everything. I'm gonna ask my mum if the bands can kip at her house!"

Miquita has chosen two acts to play the Exeter Phoenix on May 18, and promised: "I've picked a great mix of bands for the Exeter show, those Scandinavian musical wizards... Miike Snow, who always put on a great show and I predict big things for Kassidy who are supporting them."

Nick has selected Yeasayer and Silver Columns to play at a London venue on May 19. Rick's acts will be closing the tour in Nottingham on May 20 at Stealth with performances from The Big Pink and Darwin Deez.

For free tickets, register at www.topmanctrl.com until Wednesday April 21.
