Wednesday June 16 2010

The first annual Dalkey Book Festival will kick-off this Friday 18th June, in Dalkey, Co Dublin and will run until Sunday 20th June.

The Festival, which is the brainchild of David McWilliams and Sian Smyth, was founded to celebrate the literary heritage of Dalkey and to help traders in the town who, like everybody else, are struggling in the recession.

The festival includes an eclectic range of events, including the likes of Joseph O’Connor, John Connolly and Maeve Binchy and more writers who have been added to the line-up since its announcement.

The latest to join is renowned writer and journalist Robert Fisk, who will be in conversation with Vincent Browne on Friday evening.

Other additions include Fiona Looney, Shamrock Rovers supporter, who will be joining Eamon Dunphy, Des Cahill and Declan Lynch to talk books, football and culture .

A Midsummer’s Night Barbeque at the Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel will close the festival, with prosecco on the lawn, barbeque and music.

With highs of 20 degrees expected this weekend, this is the perfect way to spend a Sunday evening after a weekend of culture and heritage; a must attend event and all are welcome!
