Eminem has denied claims he lip-synched his performance on Saturday Night Live.

The 41-year-old rapper has come under fire from fans after he appeared on the US variety show at the weekend to perform the tracks Berzerk and Survival from his new album The Marshall Mathers LP 2. There has been much online speculation that he was lip-synching on Berzerk.

But a representative for Eminem has insisted he was rapping live but was using a vocal backing-track underneath his own vocals.

"He just likes this sound and if you listen to his albums they are done the same way," the rep added.

Meanwhile, Enimem - real name Marshall Mathers - has also been forced to defend some of his controversial lyrics which have been branded homophobic for his negative use of the word "gay".

Eminem told Rolling Stone magazine: "I don't know how to say this without saying it how I've said it a million times. But that word, those kind of words, when I came up battle-rappin' or whatever, I never really equated those words..."

"To actually mean 'homosexual'?" the reporter asked, to which Eminem replied: "Yeah. It was more like calling someone a b***h or a punk or a**hole. So that word was just thrown around so freely back then."
