ALL eyes were on Crystal Swing star Dervla Burke as she attended a graduation ball last night. And then all eyes fell on her date.

The young singer had asked RTE star Daithi O Se to take her to her debs ball, which takes place tonight, but the Kerry presenter -- who she'd met when she appeared on the Daily Show -- was unable to attend because of TV and 'Rose of Tralee' commitments.

But undeterred, the 19-year-old attended another graduation ball last night, as a guest of John Drislane (18) from Castlelyons. She will attend her own debs with another friend, Colm O'Donovan, in a hectic 48 hours for the St Mary's High School student who received her Leaving Cert results last week.

John, a pupil at Colaiste an Chraoibhin in Fermoy who plans to study music at third level, said he was "absolutely over the moon" when lifelong friend Dervla agreed to be his date for the grad ball in the Vienna Woods Hotel.

"I thought it was best to take a friend so I asked Dervla, who I've known for years. I was delighted when she said yes," he told the Irish Independent.

The other members of Crystal Swing -- Dervla's mother, Mary, and brother, Derek -- were also in attendance. Last year, RTE presenter Lucy Kennedy was Derek's date at his grad.

Dervla will attend her own debs ball in the Cork Airport Hotel tonight, as well as a party in Lisgoold Community Centre with 200 guests.
