A DAY out up in the Big Smoke.

A comedienne, a naked guitarist, an ass and the odd donkey were on hand in Dublin yesterday to launch details of this year's Culchie Festival.

The event -- now in its 21st year -- will take place in Mohill, Co Leitrim, over the October bank holiday weekend.

And one of Mohill's most-infamous residents, Katherine Lynch, teamed up with last year's King of the Culchies, Leo Finn, to unveil the world's biggest boxty dumpling to an unsuspecting crowd in Temple Bar.

The dish, apparently something of a speciality in Mohill, contained 250 potatoes and took 36 hours to cook.

It certainly put the capital city back in its box. This year's event in Mohill is sponsored by Meteor and will be held in conjunction with the Mohill Horse Fair.

Scheduled events include the Leitrim Super Gran competition, Matchmaking of Culchies and the Women in Wellies competition.
