Daniel Merriweather on failed love
Daniel Merriweather has admitted his album was inspired by his failed love life.
The singer said a big proportion of Love And War was written in reference to his mistakes with relationships while he was in his early 20s.
The 28-year-old said: "It was admitting that I screwed up a bunch of relationships, you know, by drinking too much and going out late at night - I'm a mature adult now. I don't do that anymore. Do I?"
The Red singer also said the song Getting Out is about one of his ex-girlfriends.
"She was so self-obsessed," he laughed.
Daniel revealed he wanted to re-record his vocals on the album before producer Mark Ronson stepped in.
"It must be better. It's gotta be better," he recalled thinking to himself.
He added: "The cool thing about working with Mark was that he was the first person that I ever worked with as a producer who said to me, 'You know what, I think that first take is pretty good, like I think you should just let it be as it is.'"
The record is being released in the US this week.
