Cheryl Cole says she's not comfortable with being labelled a "sex symbol".

The singer and X Factor judge speaks about her rise to fame in her new book, Through My Eyes.

In extracts published in Hello! magazine, she says: "I take it as a real compliment to have nice things said about me, but I don't really get it when there's stuff in men's magazines said about me, I'm not comfortable with the sex-symbol status".

Despite getting divorced and catching malaria, Cheryl said: "I have had the craziest past couple of years ever - probably some of the best times of my life! Who knows what's in store for me in the future... I can only hope for more of the same."

Cheryl, 27, also tells of her fondness for dancer Derek Hough, 25, and Black Eyed Peas singer Will.i.am, 35, describing Derek as "a sweetheart" and Will.i.am a "very special person".
