Coldplay got into the spirit of April Fool's Day by telling their fans they had released their own perfume.

Chris Martin's chart-topping band said their "exclusive fragrance", called Angst, used Brian Eno-designed bottles and Fairtrade ingredients such as "sangre, sudor and lagrimas".

Chris said: "This is something we've wanted to do for a long time - people like to smell nice and we thought we could help them out."

The band's website added: "Martin was quick to point out that there are bigger and better scents available, but that the band are simply trying to make the best aroma they can, for their own pleasure."

Chris was said to have continued: "If anyone else likes it, then that's a bonus."

The website provided a link to the online shop to buy a bottle of the scent, priced at £42 - only for it to say it had sold out.
