Coldplay are moving into the movie business by funding a new British film starring Ray Winstone, Jim Sturgess and Lesley Manville.
The band are co-financing the noir thriller Ashes, which is being directed by their friend Mat Whitecross.
The rock act's expansion into film comes as frontman Chris Martin's wife Gwyneth Paltrow moves into singing.
Gwyneth recently made the charts with her performances on Glee and she performed Coming Home from her film Country Strong at the Oscars last month after it was was nominated for an award.
Whitecross has been friends with the band for many years after meeting them at university, and made a number of their videos, including one for their most recent single Christmas Lights.
He directed the Ian Dury biopic Sex And Drugs And Rock And Roll, which was scripted by Paul Viragh, who is also writing Ashes.
Chris and the band's Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland and Will Champion will all be executive producers of the film.
Coldplay are due to play Glastonbury this summer, returning for the first time since 2005.
This week they teased fans with a short compilation of footage from the studio as they worked on their forthcoming fifth album, which was posted on their website.
