Coldplay are sponsoring a tiny Gloucestershire village cricket team, according to reports.

The hit band's bass player Guy Berryman has offered to pay for new gear and kit for Slaughters Utd, according to The Sun.

An insider at the cricket club told the newspaper: "It's knocked us for six. Never in a million years did we think we'd have connections with one of the world's biggest bands."

He added: "We heard Guy had invested some money in Stow Rugby Club so we wrote him a letter asking if he'd like to help us out too. He replied that he would happily provide kits."

Coldplay singer Chris Martin once played cricket for another Gloucestershire side, Great Rissington, and Slaughters Utd are offering him to join them for "a bat one day".
