She may now be a big star but Charli XCX has told how her "cool" parents drove her to her first rave night - and stayed until 7am.

The British songstress said they spent the night at the back "with all the hipsters" while she played the music.

Talking about when she was invited to play at the rave night in east London, she told The Sunday Telegraph's Stella magazine: "My first one was at the Peanut Factory in Hackney when I was 16.

"My parents drove me there. They were cool - my dad was really into it. We arrived at, like, 9pm and they just stood at the back of the sweatbox with all the hipsters.

"My mum helped someone out of a k-hole, and we didn't leave until 7am."

Charli, whose full name is Charlotte Aitchison, also spoke about when she "figured out who I was", adding: "I think it'd be cool for young girls, especially, not to worry about what people think of them and not try to replicate what they think is the right thing to do."

The 22-year-old's song Fancy with Iggy Azalea was the smash hit of last summer and her current single Doing It features Rita Ora.

Charli told Stella that "if a woman is being strong-minded or definite in the way she wants things done, she is misconstrued as a bitch".
