Carly wants to come home and rest before mammoth Idol tour

COMING HOME: American Idol star Carly Smithson will be back in Dublin for the first time in four years
In her first Irish interview since her appearance on the massive talent show, Carly told the Herald that a trip to her home town is the first thing on her “to-do” list.
And Carly who left Dublin in a bid to follow her dream into the music industry wants to bring her tattoo artist husband Todd back home with her.
However, Carly will be back following her American dream within weeks when she hits the road for the mammoth Idol tour.
“I definitely would love to get back home in the next few weeks, “she said. “ There's going to be three months coming up where I can't do anything as I'm going to be starting the Idol tour so I really want to go home and sit in my house for a while before that.”
And this time round, Carly's trip home will be a triumphant one – as she reveals that her last visit was over four years ago and marked a low point in her quest for success, as she was parting ways with her record company.
She reveals; “As soon as I came home to Ireland the last time, I wasn't on my record label anymore. I spent a year and a half doing promotion myself for the record and then when that wasn't working out, I decided to go back to Todd.
ROMANCE
Her decision to return clearly paid off as far from being a brief romance – the pair have been happily married for the past four years and Carly plans to introduce her man to her home as soon as possible.
“I met him when I was 17, just before I came home. And since I arrived on his doorstep, I haven't left since!”
“I think the show will be good for bringing him over to Ireland, because people will be familiar with Todd and hopefully will be really positive towards him,” she explained. “He was a bit worried about how people would react to his tattoos but I'm hoping everyone will be really welcoming.”
She adds further that her devoted husband is dealing with his wife's second brush with fame very well, explaining; “We were just in New York and we went out for dinner in Times Square and it was crazy. There were people taking pictures of us through the window.
“I had no idea there was so much support for the show at all. And Todd was very cute – when we got back to the hotel, he was saying; ‘I think I handled that well.' This is all new for him, whereas I had something a little bit similar before.”
Next up for Carly is a second chance to hit the musical jackpot – one which she says she is “stoked” about, adding; “I was 15 the last time and I'm 24 now.
I've experienced so much more in my life and I've so much more to give in a song.”
“I've been writing like crazy over the past few weeks and I can't wait to make a killer record now.
